C.D. Howe Institute recommends the Bank of Canada to issue a digital currency

Fri, Nov 26, 2021

C.D. Howe Institute, a nonprofit think tank, commented on Wednesday that the Bank of Canada (BoC) should consider issuing a digital currency. According to Global News, the think tank believes that stablecoins linked to the Canadian dollar may be attractive to consumers. It also pointed out the possibility of stablecoin platforms accessing central bank liquidity to deposit insurance and reduce related risks. C.D. Howe Institute also stated that the issuance of a digital currency can encourage private sectors to adopt stablecoins. Still, C.D Howe was still unclear on whether the virtual currency they mentioned is specifically a CBDC.
